FAQ’s

How are campers assigned to groups?
Campers are assigned to groups based on age and ability. Requests to keep siblings/friends together will be considered when possible and where safety permits. We will never put a camper in a position where they feel scared or unsafe. Camp provides a great social opportunity for meeting new friends and interacting with new people, we want all campers to get the most out of their camp experience!

How many campers per counselor?
Our maximum ratio is 1:8 for kids ages 6 and up. Our Cub Camp (ages 3-5) ratio will be 1:4.

How are counselors selected?
All our counselors are highly experienced and skilled individuals that have been chosen through an application and interview process. Counselors will attend an orientation and training week specific to Bear Valley Summer Day Camp, including mandated reporter training. Counselors are required to hold current First Aid and CPR certifications, and those supervising water activities also hold their Life Guard license.

What do campers need on a day-to-day basis?
Keep track of the calendar so you know what to expect each day. General packing information can be found here

What transportation is provided between activities?
Most of our activities we can walk or bike to, however there may be some days where we ask for parents assistance in transporting campers to an area. We will let you know in advance when these situations arise.

What if my child cannot attend for the day?
We ask that you please contact us as soon as possible so we can make that spot available to a “walk in” camper. In some situations (illness or emergency) we may be able to offer an alternate day of camp if space is available.

What happens when it rains?
In the event of “bad” weather we will make use of the Perry Walther building and the Bear Valley school building. These days are great for reflection and an opportunity for team building activities. Other “inside” activities include -

    Table tennis
    Basketball
    Badminton
    Mini Olympics
    Dance party
    Skit shows
    Arts and crafts
    Singing in the rain

Don’t stay away just because the sun is!
